The Society of Professional Obituary Writers is an organization of journalists, who write, produce and present obituaries for newspapers and other news entities.

Our goal is to provide professional training, networking and resources to help obituary writers develop reporting, interviewing, writing and new media skills for penning obits for newspapers, magazines, broadcast media, Internet sites and other journalistic endeavors.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Society of Professional Obituary Writers, an organization of journalists, is dedicated to improving the quality of the writing and presentation of obituaries for newspapers, magazines, broadcast media and Internet sites.

SPOW also aims to spotlight the art of obituary writing and its importance in journalism.
